How Captain America: Civil War's Villain Will Be Different From the Comics

Next year's third Captain America movie has attracted a lot of attention because of the fact that it pits two rival superhero teams against one another. But Captain America: Civil War will also feature a more conventional supervillain in the shape of evil Nazi scientist Baron Zemo. Now Daniel Brühl, the actor portraying him, has spoken about the character.

In an interview with Business Insider, Inglourious Basterds star Brühl reveals that Zemo's appearance will be different from that of Marvel's comic books. "He does not wear the mask," he said. "You would be surprised, it's different than what you'd think. It's loosely connected to this character.

"But that's what I like about the Marvel guys. Some of the characters and things they're dealing with always reference current events, so my character is from a different area than you would think."

In the comics, Zemo wears a distinctive purple hood, which forms part of his body after a super-adhesive that he invented spills onto his face.

Captain America: Civil War is due for release on May 6, 2016, and tells the story of the conflict between Captain America and Iron Man, following government registration of superhero activity. In August, promo art revealing the two rival teams was released--check it out here.

The film is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, who helped turn the second Captain America movie, 2014's The Winter Soldier, into a $700 million smash. It stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, and Paul Rudd.
