Rambo Reboot on the Way Without Sylvester Stallone

The Rambo franchise is coming back to theaters with a reboot that won't star Sylvester Stallone. This is according to The Hollywood Reporter, which claims the movie has the appropriate title Rambo: New Blood.

A younger actor would play John Rambo in the movie for a character "akin to James Bond." Plot details are not available yet, in part because the movie reportedly is only just getting off the ground.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ariel Vromen, who directed The Iceman and Criminal, will be behind the camera for New Blood. Brooks McLaren (Line of Sight) is writing the script.

Stallone not signing up to play Rambo again is no surprise. The actor, who is 70 years old, said earlier this year, "The heart's willing, but the body says, 'Stay home!'"

"It's like fighters that go back for one last round and get clobbered. Leave it to someone else," he said, alluding to the possibility of something else taking over.

The last time Stallone played Rambo was in 2008's Rambo.

Last year, it was reported that Stallone would be working as a producer on Fox's upcoming Rambo TV show. However, he's apparently not involved, in part because he's not thrilled with the show's father-son dynamic. The TV program will focus on the relationship between Rambo and his Navy SEAL son.
