Streets of Rage and Altered Beast movies and TV shows in the works, Sega seeking partners for Golden Axe, Virtua Fi

Two classic 16-bit era Sega licenses are on their way to the big and small screens.

Streets of Rage and Altered Beast are being adapted into movies and TV shows, apparently.

Variety reports Stories International, a production company jointly owned by Sega and Hakuhodo DY Holdings, has partnered with Circle of Confusion to produce the adaptations.

Circle of Confusion is responsible for Fear the Walking Dead, Powers and Dirk gently, among other TV projects, and it's also behind movies like Spare Parts and Mr Right.

That's all we know about the Streets of Rage and Altered Beast projects, but Stories International actively looking for further partnerships with studios, producers and filmmakers. It's already, managed to get Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and The Girl on the Train producer Marc Platt working on Shinobi. The report also mentions Golden Axe, Virtua Fighter, The House of the Dead and Crazy Taxi specifically as titles Sega is looking at.

Dang, Streets of Rage news on the same day we find out Capcom might revive Final Fight. And Altered Beast! When I was seven years old I thought that tinny voice shouting “rise from your grave” was the coolest thing that ever happened or would ever happen.

This is all very gratifying for an old Sega fan, if somewhat out of modern character. Sega leveraging its own properties instead of ignoring them almost entirely? Golly. Between this and the recent Steam collector's room thing I'm starting to think the old dog might have some life in it yet.
