Ubisoft Bringing Its Franchises to a Massive Indoor Theme Park in Dubai

Ubisoft today announced a partnership to bring its franchises to Dubai's IMG World indoor theme park. In its statement, Ubisoft confirmed that Assassin's Creed, Just Dance, and Rabbids are among its franchises that will show up in the United Arab Emirates park.

Ubisoft explained that it's doing this as is part of a concerted strategy to expand its catalog of franchises beyond just gaming. The company is also making movies based on its franchises, the newest of which, Assassin's Creed, comes to theaters this month.

Ubisoft is not the only gaming company looking to expand its footprint. Nintendo has saidthe prorportion of people coming into contact with its franchises through games is falling. That's why Mario-branded toothbrushes and shoes are so important, CEO Tatsumi Kimishima said. Additionally, Nintendo is working with Universal to bring its franchises to the company's theme parks.

Ubisoft's partnership with IMG Worlds is for the theme park company's IMG Worlds of Legends park. The two-million square foot park will have nine zones, some of which will be dedicated to Assassin's Creed, Just Dance, and Rabbids. No renderings of the Ubisoft zones have been released. The IMG Worlds of Legends Park was only just announced today.

Speaking to UAE publication The National, park management said IMG Worlds of Legends is hoping to open by 2020. It will also feature zones sponsored by Viacom and Mattel, with attractions featuring SpongeBob, Power Rangers, and Dragon Ball Z. Additionally, Pokemon is mentioned in the report.

IMG Worlds of Legends is just the latest IMG Worlds park, as IMG Worlds Adventure is already open. It features attractions sponsored by Marvel and Cartoon Network, among others.

This is just Ubisoft's latest push into the theme park space, as it's working on a "next-generation theme park" for Malaysia; it's also set to open in 2020.
