New Shin Megami Tensei Game Heads to Switch, But Not in the West (Yet)

Last night's Nintendo Switch livestream presentation was broadcast around the world, meaning we saw the same games as those watching in Japan. That included a new Shin Megami Tensei game, though at this point, Atlus hasn't committed to localizing it for the West.

In a press release today, Atlus announced the Switch game, describing it as a "new HD title" and using the placeholder name Shin Megami Tensei: Brand New Title. However, it added that it's not yet confirmed for release outside of Japan.

"Atlus USA currently has no information about a localization for this title but wanted to present the details from the Japanese reveal of this title to the western market," it said. "A formal announcement will be made later for this title if a localization gets confirmed."

You can see the Shin Megami Tensei trailer from last night's presentation above. It doesn't show any gameplay. Instead, it shows the interior of what looks like a destroyed office building (presumably in Tokyo, given what series this is) and a number of familiar demons.

Recent Shin Megami Tensei games have been localized for western markets, which bodes well for a localization of this new one. Whatever the case, with Switch being region-free, you'll have the option to import a copy (though you'd need to know Japanese to properly enjoy the experience).

2017 marks the 25-year anniversary of the original Shin Megami Tensei's release in Japan. A new website dedicated to the occasion (via Gematsu) reveals that in addition to the Switch game, there's also a new 3DS project in the works. However, no details have been shared about that at this point.
