Game Of Thrones Creators Thought S7 Date Reveal Was "Embarrassing," Star Says

HBO announced the Game of Thrones Season 7 date in kind of a weird way. Hundreds of thousands of people watched a block of ice melt to reveal the date--July 16. The event was broadcast live on Facebook, and the stream suffered through some issues before the date was ultimately revealed.

Now, Jaime Lannister actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has spoken out to say that Game of Thrones showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff thought the reveal was "embarrassing." He added that he thought there could be some fan backlash as a result of the format of this reveal.

"I spoke to Dan and David about that and they were like, 'Oh god… That's embarrassing,'" Coster-Waldau told The Daily Beast. "Everyone was like, 'What's going to happen?' 'What's going to happen?!' 'It's melting!' 'It crashed!' 'Oh my god!' It's like, just walk away… just walk away. It's just a date!

"You know, I was actually thinking, 'Is there going to be a backlash and people will think, 'F**k you guys for that!'" but that's really happened with every time the show kills off a major character: 'Never again! F**k you! I'm never going to watch this show!' and, you know, they keep coming back."

Game of Thrones Season 7 premieres on July 16. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.
