Level-5 acquires Mighty No. 9 dev Comcept

After its acquisition, Comcept has been renamed Level-5 Comcept.

Comcept, the developer behind the now infamous Mighty No. 9 has seen a sudden twist in its fortunes. The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu has reported that Level-5 – the publisher behind Professor Layton and Ni No Kuni – has acquired the studio. The new subsidiary has been renamed Level-5 Comcept.

The information comes from Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino and Comcept founder Keiji Inafune, both of whom were interviewed by Famitsu (which was later translated by Gematsu). Level-5 Comcept will be treated as a new company built upon Comcept's base staff, and currently consists of about 15 people. Both Hino and Inafune seem fairly excited about the acquisition, having wanted to work together since their time on Guild 02.

Level-5 Comcept even has a new game lined up called Dragon Colonies. This PvP iOS and Android title will pit colonies of humans and magical creatures together as each attempts to develop the strongest settlement. While Comcept as we currently know it is shutting down, Inafune has stated he will he will maintain responsibility for all titles he worked on up until the end.

Dragon Colonies will launch in Japan in 2018.
