Assassin's Creed Origins gamescom trailer includes a great bit of foot archery among other delights

Assassin's Creed Origins fronts a moody cinematic trailer set to Leonard Cohen's fabulous You Want it Darker, and suddenly Egypt's blazing sunshine feels totally different.

Assassin's Creed Origins finally takes the series to Egypt, a setting we've been expecting since the end of the very first game and the tease scrawled on the wall of an Abstergo cell.

Ubisoft has talked a good talk on loads of new features and systems, and shown plenty of terrific footage, but still – the franchise fatigue is real. If you're not yet sold on Assassin's Creed Origins, please check out the new cinematic trailer below, fresh from gamescom 2017.

You can read a heck of a lot into the lyrics here, and speculate on the themes the visuals suggest, but I feel like we can all agree that Assassin's Creed Origins looks pretty badass. Ancient rituals and religion. Politics and warfare. Power struggles. The Roman Empire. Nasty grand viziers who turn into snakes. Making us wait to see our hero. Foot archery. Incredible eyeliner. Assassin's Creed Origins has it all.

Assassin's Creed Origins releases in late October, uncomfortably close to a selection of probable bangers. Now that Crackdown 3 has been delayed we'd quite like to see Ubisoft push Origins back a week to give it a bit more breathing room, but hey – maybe it's inevitable that the formerly blockbuster series will return to form.
