Capcom cancels unannounced game, reduces scope of next Dead Rising – report

Capcom's western studio in Vancouver, Canada has fallen on some rough times as the publisher cuts the scope of the next Dead Rising, and cancels an unannounced project.

Capcom has reportedly laid off around 50 developers at the Vancouver studio as part of a reorganisation “aimed to streamline the company.”

People familiar the studio told Kotaku that these layoffs affect an unannounced project, and the next Dead Rising, which is said to have been “over-scoped and under-staffed.”

The unannounced game was a third-person action-adventure set in an alternate reality version of New York. It was in early prototyping stages and hadn't been even greenlit by Capcom before it was axed.

Capcom Vancouver is the studio responsible for Dead Rising 2, Dead Rising 3, and Dead Rising 4. The studio also released Puzzle Fighter, which it continues to update.

Capcom has not officially announced a new Dead Rising game, so it sounds like we'll be waiting a while for a new entry in the series.
