Watch gameplay from Valfaris, the new game from Slain devs

Valfaris, the next game from Steel Mantis, developers of Slain, is also a heavy metal action side-scroller.

Valfaris was unveiled almost a year ago at E3, and the developer is now ready to give players an extended look at gameplay. Valfaris borrows a lot from Slain, particularly its 90s-inspired, heavy metal aesthetics.

Shooting is a big part of the action in Valfaris compared to Slain, but melee combat is still one of the game's main mechanics. Valfaris also appears to borrow the challenging design of the original, with tough bosses and lots of enemies on screen – not to mention gore.

There's around 30 minutes of footage in the video below, giving us a good look at a lot of what the game has to offer. On top of the action, of which there is plenty of here, we also get to see some of the weapons, the save system, weapon upgrades and more.

Slain wasn't received well when it initially launched, with many lamenting its lack of satisfying, fair combat. The developer kept working on it and later released the updated, Back from Hell edition as a free upgrade which fixed many of the initial release's problems.

Valfaris is being developed for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It's planned for release between later this year and early 2019.
