Sinceramente credevo peggio, invece questo film mi ha sorpreso, non mi ha annoiato ed è già una cosa positiva. L'unica nota stonata è il finale scontato....

La trama è abbastanza segnata dalla saga, nessun stravolgimento di copione ma.. devondire molto ben fatto, ambientazioni fantastiche e spaccato indiano favoloso.
Non do le 5 stelle solo perché non è un cult come il primo ma meglio degli ultimi prodotti

Probably The Best Predator Movie

It's been said that Predators have been on Earth longer than most people think, and Prey takes full advantage of this angle. Set in the 1700s, in the wilds of North America where the colonialists haven't yet overrun the indigenous population, its main character--aside from the Predator of course--is a Commanche girl named Naru (Amber Midthunder). Naru yearns for a more active life, away from the tribal village where women do the women's work, and out among the men where the hunts take place. Unfortunately, she's about to get her wish, just not in the way she imagined. Every bit as good a warrior as any of the males, she's going to need every last ounce of that skill, because her homeland is where one of the first Predators to visit the Earth (unless you count the under-appreciated Alien Vs. Predator movies, which don't seem to be considered canon to the main franchise) touches down on the planet.

Immediate concern: after the heavy punishment they've faced in previous movies, how are they going to have a Predator NOT go through enemies with just muskets and tomahawks like a chainsaw through butter? The answer is, the filmmakers don't try to avoid it. Most of the time, the Predator just slaughters his way through his foes like a hurricane. And yet, somehow, when the other characters manage to gain an advantage on the hunter, it doesn't come off as contrived. It takes the best the natives have got, but they do manage to get some good hits in there from time to time. And while fast and tough, the previous movies have shown that Predators aren't unkillable. Or will this be the time one of the Predators actually manages to completely annihilate his enemies on all fronts?

Great action sequences, great acting, well shot, and boasting a cool new, more primitive look for the Predator, this movie just might be the best in its franchise. Extremely recommended.

La calidad del producto es buena pero no es la mejor edición, la caja es bonita pero el estuche y la impresión de las carátulas no se ven tan bien. El disco es básico en su impresión, pero lo importante es que la película se ve y oye muy bien.

Imaginons James Cameron aux commandes de ce film, voilà ce qu'il aurait dû faire au lieu de pomper du fric a maximum... avec ces avatar 1 et 2 : qui ne sont qu'un sur-genre de Walt Disney.
Il n'a pas rendu hommage à l'art mais aux billets verts.
Je remercie le réalisateur de Prey pour son excellent et magnifique film!
Si James Cameron avait réalisé le film, il serait rentré de nouveau dans la légende comme à l'époque de son premier Terminator. He'll never be back. Stop à Avatar... Et j'attends toujours son prochain Terminator.

This is a review of the 2022 Sci-Fi action thriller ‘Prey’. We watched it on the superb November 2023 All Region Blu-ray from The Walt Disney Company. It plays in 2.39:1, 1080p HD, with DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1. There are plenty of extras.

The picture is superbly clear and sharp, with rich, natural colour. The cinematographer used an anamorphic filming format to capture the wide panorama of the glorious landscapes, and instead of complex, highly technical, lighting, he used natural light by day, and low-tech torches at night. The effect is to create wonderfully natural landscape photography, with impressively atmospheric nighttime shots. The sound is also brilliant, using natural and ‘Sci-Fi’ sound overlaid, for maximum effect. The overall quality of the ‘look’ and ‘sound’ of this film is stunning, well beyond the norm for an ‘action thriller’.

‘Prey’ was filmed in Alberta, a regular location for good Westerns, from ‘Unforgiven’(1992) to ‘Brokeback Mountain’(2005). In this case, it was filmed on reservation land, outside Calgary. This was appropriate, given the large number of Native American/First Nation actors, advisors and crew members involved in the production. The scenery is breathtaking, as are the sky-scapes captured here, and given that all the scenes take place either in open country or in a Comanche village on the Plains, there are no permanent human structures to mar the beauty.

The story is in some senses an origin story within the (now) 7 film Predator franchise, which began with Arnie and his buddies, in ‘Predator’(1987). All the other 6 films are present-day or future. This film goes back, to an earlier visitation to Earth by the Predator species, in 1719; we know from elsewhere in the franchise that this had happened. And the visit is to the North American continent, beyond the settled colonies, to where the tribes still roam at will, trammelled only by aggressive French trappers, collecting pelts. This sets up a fascinating three-way struggle for survival ~ four, if you include the wildlife.

The story here is elegantly simple. It is brilliantly and energetically played out, against the glorious Alberta backdrop. The 99 minute film provides nearly continuous action, some fast and furious, some subtle and controlled, all completely absorbing. There are several terrific fight scenes, chases and confrontations: the use of the terrain to enhance the action, is noteworthy.

The central characters are largely Comanche tribespeople, led by the formidable Amber Midthunder, as the redoubtable young warrioress, Naru. She effortlessly joins a very special group of women, including Sigourney Weaver as Ripley ('Alien' franchise), and Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor ('Terminator' franchise), who leave their male contemporaries in the dust. It is a seismic performance, enhanced by the fact that we have time to get to know her. Similarly, the excellent Dakota Beavers, as her brother Taabe, is a proper 3D character.

If you are even a modest fan of the ‘Predator’ franchise, or indeed of Westerns, you are likely to love this film. With its apparently highly accurate portrayal of Comanche culture, delicious musical nod to Michael Mann’s glorious ‘Last of the Mohicans’(1992), and a lean athletic Predator, this is a superb newcomer to the series. We considered it at least as good as Arnie’s original, way better than other sequels, and a splendid stand-alone Sci-Fi/Western crossover. Worthy of 6 breathless Stars.
