I originally bought this for the psp as well, but decided to get this version as I wanted to play on a bigger screen. Doesn't really matter if you can't read Japanese or not, there are plenty of guides on this game on you-tube. Bought the psp version when I was studying Japanese in university but have played other games in the franchise as well. All Japanese imported games on psp and ps3 will generally work on your UK console. Also got both versions as they never released mhp3rd to the west or Europe, only in Japan. Main menu screen comes with bunch of promo and in game cutscenes. There's an online segment seemingly but have not tested this yet. Still playing the game and it's pretty fun overall.

Es un gran juego, soy fan de la franquicia Monster Hunter y tenía ganas de jugar el 3rd (a pesar de que está en japonés), esó si, se puede apreciar que en este MH la dificultad ha disminuido si lo comparamos con el MH FU o el MH 3 Tri.

Can't read a thing since I only speak and write English but I've played monster hunter enough to know where to find the quest boards so it's still a blast, love playing this game on console again (why is there not more console versions of this series?). Not region locked so it works on PlayStation 3 here in Canada/ USA so if you're reading reviews to find that out, now you know.

MHP、MHP2Gとこの3もすべてソロオンリーでやりましたがこれが一番面白かった
今回の村は温泉がある村で和風テイストになっていていい感じに和めます
なにより集会所上位でもしっかり装備を強化すればソロでちょうどいい感じのやりごたえになるのがいい
今までのように敵の体力がありすぎて時間切れという事はまずない(巨龍は除く)
相応の装備をしっかり強化すれば被ダメもちゃんと低くなるのでそこまで高度なテクニックがなくてもなんとかなる
ガンナーでも一撃で死にません前作での剣士並みの防御力があります
前作に比べモンスターの動きはかなり変わってます
リオレウス、リオレイアなどは隙があまりなくて強くなった(でかい猪は驚くほど強くなってる)
ティガレックス、ディアブロ、アカムの突進は避けやすくなり弱くなった
イビルジョー、下ランクの装備で挑まざるをえない戦い、ランク昇格の緊急イベント
これらもかなりきついし当たり前だけど大連続や村クエ最終などは相変わらず超難しいのであしからず

前作まで倒す手段を確立させるのにとても苦労した巨龍(今作は砂上の鯨)だが
最初から爆弾なしの弓やボウガンで時間内に倒せます
イビルジョーやアマツマガヅチはかなり強いけど前作までの炎のライオンみたいな
あそこまで狂ってる極悪モンスターはいないのでその点は安心していいかも

モンハンは今まで異常に難易度が高かった
この3で例えるなら下位装備で上位に挑むというのをエンドレスにやっている感じ
爆弾にめちゃ依存したし敵の攻撃方法も動きも雑魚も作ったやつの悪意に満ちていて憤る事が多かった
そもそも参加人数に応じてモンスターの体力攻守は倍々で増えるよう設定すべきなのに
ソロでも多人数でもモンスターの仕様が一緒っておかしいでしょ
ようやくソロプレイヤーにちょうどいい塩梅になったと思う

・最初だけネット回線に繋いで起動しよう
　2019年9月現在でも無料でダウンロードできるクエストが多数あり
　芸能人が作ったオトモアイルーももらえます

・名前にアルファベット以外にも漢字、ひらがな、カタカナが使えるようになった

・アイルーが戦場に2匹連れて行けるようになり武器防具も作って装備させる事ができるようになった
　2匹になった事で敵の注意をかなり引き付けてくれるようになったし罠や毒麻痺爆弾も敵によく効きます

・アイルーキッチンの代わりに温泉に浸かって湯上りにドリンクを選ぶ形に変わった
　番頭からの泉質とドリンクのクエストをクリアしていく事でどんどん解放されていき
　ステの上昇値や様々なスキルが付くドリンクが増えていく

・敵からの被ダメが低くなったので一撃で死んだり即致命傷とまではならなくなった
　相応に防具を強化した防御力前提だけど前作に比べれば被ダメはかなり低い
　その代わり敵からの攻撃で属性やられ状態になったり
　(例えばリオレウスの火の玉を喰らうと火だるま状態になって体力減り＆火属性被ダメUP)
　踏みつけられて「拘束」状態になったりするようになった
　(拘束から逃れるにはうんこ玉投げるかレバガチャする必要があってめちゃダルいがされるがままにしていると
　最悪ＭＡＸ体力の9割くらいもっていかれる場合もあるのでうんこ玉は常備必須)

・モンスターにちゃんとスタミナがあって疲れてくれるようになった(口からよだれがダラダラ)
　こちらを延々と攻撃し続ける事はできなくなっていて火の玉などが吐けなくなったり
　コケたり動きが遅くなってゼェゼェ息切れしながら止まるなど攻撃チャンスの状態になってくれる
　ちなみにこのスナミナ切れ状態になった時に罠肉を置くと目の前で罠肉を食べる(そのまま戦ってると餌場へ逃げる)
　罠肉を食べさせてしまうと回復してしまうがイビルジョーなどはスタミナ切れがなく
　怒り状態から通常に戻るたびに罠肉を食べるので結構有効
　
・太刀の気刃斬りに大回転斬りというフニッシュ技が加わりかなり強くなった
　しかも3段階で攻撃力が上がり見た目も派手でカッコイイ
　他にも弓は曲射(溜め最大で遠距離へ大ダメージ)ヘビィボウガンのしゃがみ撃ちなど
　大抵の武器には新技が加わっている

・新武器にスラッシュアックスが登場
　斧と両手剣と換装させる事ができる武器だが両手剣は時間制限有りしかも換装させるのに
　ひと手間かかるので個人的には使いにくかった

・雑魚がそれほどうざくない
　今作ではランポスはあまり飛び掛かってこないしランゴスタもそれほど邪魔してこない
　大型が来ると雑魚どもが隅っこで怯えて大人しくしている事もしばしば見かける
　なので狩場の事前掃除は前作ほど神経質にやらなくてもいい

・今回は装備で発動するスキルが多い
　更にお守りという便利な装備のおかげでより多くのスキルを発動させる事ができる
　お守りは採掘やクエ報酬で取ってくるわけだが能力値は完全にランダムというわけではなく
　数値のパターンは膨大ではあるが決まっていて10＆10以上で穴3つとかは存在しない
　集会上位の火山採取で高いレアのお守りがボロボロ出るので序盤はあまり執着せずここで集めるのがおすすめ
　最終的には採掘テーブルを狙らって時間派測ってゲーム起動とかやる事になる
　
・今作は自動マーキングがなくてもなんとかなる
　今までだとモンスターはテレポートレベルで全体マップの端から端に飛んでいたので
　マーキングなしで探し出すのは非常に面倒だったが今作は飛竜系以外はほぼ隣接マップにしか行かないし
　逃げた方向もよく分かるようになっている(でもペイントボールと千里薬は常備しておいた方が良い)
　餌場や寝床逃げる移動経路も決まっているため比較的移動先の把握が楽

・行商人から買えるものが多くなった
　光蟲、生肉、罠などは買えるので自分で集める必要が無くなった
　肉魚は自分で焼かなくてはいけなくなったが10個いっぺんに猫と共同で焼く形になり売るほど余る
　以前より遥に色々便利になっているので閃光や罠がもったいなくて戦闘で使えなかった人には朗報
　
・乱入要素が加わった
　狩猟環境が不安定の表示があるものは目的のモンスターを狩猟したあとに他のモンスターが新たに乱入してくる
　乱入してくるモンスターはランダムで続行した場合追加で物資が届く。
　制限時間いっぱいまで繰り返して何匹でも狩る事ができる

・序盤から硬くて切れずに弾かれる部位を持つ敵が多くなった
　今作はかなり剣が弾かれる印象が強いので単純な攻撃力より切れ味レベルの量や心眼が結構重要

・弓がかなり効くようになった
　前作まで非力なイメージしかなかった弓だがかなり使える武器になった(個人的意見だが弓最強)
　剣では弾かれて面倒なモンスターが多いので近接心眼より撃ち殺した方が圧倒的に早い

・今作は部位の破壊や切断は無理にやる必要はない
　前作まで尻尾などは尻尾を切って剥ぎ取らない限り絶対に手に入らなかったが
　今作は基本報酬でもらえるのでわざわざ切断する必要はない
　(当然だが尻尾切って剥ぎ取るのが一番高確率に尻尾を入手できる)
　他にも部位の破壊ができなくても捕獲、剥ぎ取り、基本報酬で手に入らない素材はない
　部位の破壊や切断はするに越した事はないが無理にしなくてもよくなった
　(例えると上位の砂鯨の牙などは左右両方折るにはバリスタを決戦場でも撃つ必要があってとても面倒
　牙は剥ぎ取りでも基本報酬でも高確率で出るので徒労とは言わんがわざわざ時間をかけて破壊する必要がない)
　今回は部位の破壊や切断をするために弱点でもないところを敢えて攻撃する必要がなく
　弱点を優先的に突いて早く殺してしまった方が効率がいい
　素材の確率も前作のような1％とか異常な低確率はなく一番出にくいものでも最低5％程度はあるので
　素材集めでそこまで苦労する事はないと思う

・二頭同時でも逃げる必要がなくなった
　今までは二頭同時なんてマップから逃げてたけど
　今作からモンスターにうんこ玉当てるとマップから退場させる事ができるようになったので
　二頭同時ものがかなり易しくなった。合流されてもけむり玉を使うと気づいてないやつをそのまま
　気づかせず片方と戦う事い続ける事ができるので闘技場二頭同時などではけむり玉は必須

モンハン初心者はここから入ってもっとマゾくより高い難易度を求める人は2G更に初代へと遡るといいと思う

このゲームで一番難しいのはいつものように訓練です
今回は「集団」訓練となっていて複数でやる事を前提としています
上位級に強いモンスターに下位の勝手に決められた装備と不得手な武器で挑まなければならず
憤って発狂するほど難しい
評価は時間でソロでA評価を得ることは物理的に不可能に思えるほど超絶な難易度
全クリアで増弾のピアス武器全種の内A評価ひとつでも取れれば剣聖のピアス

グラフィックはPS3では綺麗な部類
送料込みでも500円くらいで安く買えるのでこれはかなりおすすめ

Just a disclaimer: I am a huge Monster Hunter fan, so there may be some bias in this review.

I started playing Monster Hunter on the PS2 8 years ago, then moved through the various PSP ports before stopping before the Wii and Wii U ones (I wasn't going to switch platforms for a MH game that has less content). So when I found out there was another MH game on the PS3, I was ecstatic.. Until I found out it was only in Japanese. I don't speak a bit of Japanese, however I do understand the concepts of MH very well, which is one thing that will help you greatly if you plan on purchasing this game.

Through the help of a couple wikis and some YouTube videos, I can manage to make out 95% of what is going on with the game and navigate it no problem, even with complete Japanese text and voices. The game is an absolute blast in single player and multiplayer, even if it feels a bit easier than previous MH games (Maybe that's just me though. At 3 hours into the game I already have a weapon that can kill the first "boss" monster in about 20 hits). I would definitely recommend it if A: You speak Japanese and understand Monster Hunter. B: You don't understand Japanese, but understand Monster Hunter and don't mind using the internet to help you with it. I would not recommend this if A: It's your first MH game or B: You don't speak Japanese and don't like using the internet to help. The final thing to mention is that this game IS upscaled PSP game for the PS3, so don't expect terrific graphics (that being said, the graphics are surprisingly good).

This game is very grind based in terms of gear and there is no leveling, just like all the other MH games. Meaning, there is no actual XP related leveling for your character, stats are based purely off gear (armor, weapons, charms) and buffs from items. This can turn a lot of people away from the game, but I personally love it. It adds a certain level of skill to the game (think Dark Souls type weapon upgrading, without the leveling) that others don't have.

The combat is phenomenal, there's all the same weapons plus a new one (Switch Axe), and they all flow just as well as always. I personally use the Long Sword (very long Katana/sword. Think Washing Pole from Dark Souls), and it is fantastic. The game uses the same controls as the PSP games, except you can use the right analog stick to turn the camera, which is a Godsend.

Lastly, they added some new monsters and area (such as a giant blue bear type creature you encounter in an ancient Japanese forest), which help greatly mix up the game's variety and style. This game has a much great Ancient Japanese Mountains feel, and less of a run down village feel like the previous games.

So, to sum up:

Pros:
Wicked fun.
Upscaled PSP graphics look surprisingly good.
Smooth combat.
Easy to get into if you have experience with MH.
New monsters.
New areas.
Refreshing new village.

Cons:
Language barrier is huge if you don't speak Japanese.
Not a good idea if it's your first MH game.
As said above, graphics ARE decent, but they are also upscaled PSP ones, so that can lead to some rather "blah" textures.
Game price. I paid around $50 shipped for a new copy of this game, and it's been out for years.
Difficult to find a group to play with online unless friends have the game.

All that being said, I love the game. I can see myself putting many, many hours into it.
