DX 10/11 Requiring "Service Pack 2"
Today I tried to play Civ V and when looking at the Direct X 10/11 Option, it is greyed out and it says it requires "Service Pack 2 or Greater" to play. I checked Windows Update (I'm running Windows 7) and it says there's nothing to update. Did Civ V jump the gun on requiring SP2 on DX 10/11 or did Microsoft release a service pack that its own updater refused to download...?

i have the same problem. directx 10/11 isnt greyed out, but i cant run the game. directx9 doesnt work too.

Well, it's still greying out the DX 10/11 option and it tells me it requires SP2 or greater to run. It worked fine just before the latest patch...

OK Dude, do this. Exit Steam. Right click on the Steam icon, select properties. Under Compatibility Tab, unselect any compatibility mode it runs, and enable running Steam as Admin. OK and restart Steam. See if it works.

Make sure you're not running the game in compatibility mode either. Either the game or Steam thinks you're running Vista.

I checked again and it does say I'm running Steam in compatability mode with Windows Vista, but it won't let me uncheck it, even if I'm not running the program.

Fixed it. Had to go into "Change Settings for All Users" and it allowed me to uncheck the box. Thank you to everyone who helped out!

Go into Steam icon properties and change compatability to Windows 7. For some reason it was stuck on Vista!!?? :-/
Restart Steam and install game, you will notice new option is now available.
This solved the issue for me and others in this forum :)
