After the release of the new Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer this morning, we have now learned that another video game movie is in the works as well.

As announced by Deadline, a film based on Deep Silver's Saints Row is now in production. F. Gary Gray, who has previously directed films such as The Fate of the FuriousStraight Outta Compton, and The Italian Job will be helming the project while Greg Russo will be the film's writer. The Saints Row movie will be co-produced by Fenix Studios, Koch Media and Occupant Entertainment. As of this writing, no potential release window has been given.

Honestly, I know that Saints Row is a popular video game series, but I can't believe they're going to now be turning it into a movie. The one thing about the Saints Row games that has never been great is the narrative. It's the act of playing those games that is actually fun. I have a hard time envisioning how a full movie set in the Saints Row universe could be very good, but I'd love to be wrong.

F. Gary Gray has a solid track record though so at the very least, maybe this could turn out to be a fun action flick. Past video game movies prove that it will more than likely be an uphill battle to turn Saints Row into a winner, but if they nail the tone of the film, it could be more enjoyable than I'm maybe giving it credit.

What do you think? Would you go watch a Saints Row movie? Let me know down in the comments.
