Devil May Cry 5 has generated a lot of hype despite an absence of big hack and slash titles around these days, and when we were recently at a preview event for the game and got to talk with director Hideaki Itsuno, we asked him whether he thought we were seeing a second wave of hack and slash triple-A games.

"Well, we've talked to people in the industry too and there are the people that have been talking about how they can't get this kind of hack and slash game to prove it because there's no market for it anymore. So, we've talked to people and they've mentioned how they want us to succeed because if we succeed then they can make more hack and slash games again," he told us, as translated by producer Matt Walker.

When we talked to Itsuno he also mentioned about how Nero and V are characters that prepare you for eventually playing as Dante, with Nero being especially suitable for newcomers to the series, and we also got to play the game, as you can read in our hands-on preview text.

Would you like to see more hack and slash games?
