Dreams PS4 PlayStation 4

Dreams is just mad. Media Molecule's PlayStation 4 exclusive creation suite was available in early access for the better half of this year, and it's meant that dedicated players have been able to hone their skills and make some incredible things. One user who's been experimenting with the game goes by TannicAlloy on Twitter, and he's produced some of the most impressive examples of what Dreams can do.

Case in point: basic performance capture.

As you can see in this video, he's been able to get a rough motion capture prototype running within Dreams using two PS4 controllers and bits of string. The DualShock 4 attached to the top of his head has strings taped to the sticks and triggers, which are then also taped to his face. This allows an in-game puppet to imitate basic facial movements, like opening and closing the mouth, raising the eyebrows, or even controlling eyelid movements. A second DualShock 4 is affixed to the back of TannicAlloy's head, which is used to capture the motion itself.

The results are mightily impressive for a game not necessarily built for this type of thing. The methods used are rudimentary, but it works. In terms of practical use, you could do very basic in-game acting for animated shorts, cutscenes, or music videos.

Dreams is crazy.
