An Apex Legends player is calling on the developers to region lock China in order to prevent the game from succumbing to rampant cheaters.

We’re not sure if you’ve heard, but Apex Legends is the new Battle Royale shooter on the block. And it’s extremely popular, already having shot past 50 million players.

Unfortunately, with great popularity comes great propensity for people to find ways around their lack of skill. Players using illegal hacks and aimbots are on the rise, with Respawn having revealed that over 350,000 players have been banned for cheating since the game’s release in February.

That’s a lot of players, but some Apex fans fear that it’s not enough. And they’re calling on Respawn to take the biggest problem out of the picture by region locking China.

"Do not make the same Mistake PUBG/Bluehole made,” writes Reddit user FreshmeatOW. “Do it AS SOON AS POSSIBLE."

FreshmeatOW is referring to how Chinese hackers remain the constant scourge of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, with some even attributing the ubiquitousness of hackers for the game’s downfall. PUBG’s developers admitted last summer that 99% of all banned accounts are from China, and even though they’d banned 13 million accounts since June of 2017, more Chinese cheaters just keep on coming.

Another Reddit gamer from Hong Kong explained the prevalence of Chinese cheating culture on the PC Gaming subreddit. They attributed the problem to three main sources, the first being a society that values winning by any means necessary, including by cheating. Second, a culture that continues to have zero problems with software piracy, and third an abundance of Chinese programmers eager to make a buck on the game hacks industry.

Although it is illegal in China to create and distribute cheat software, with hundreds of arrests attributed to PUBG hackers alone, the problem remains prevalent.

Region locking China would certainly solve the issue of cheaters for the rest of the world, but solving the larger issue of Chinese cheating culture is something that no game is strong enough to fix.
