Rock Band Dev Remembers David Bowie

As news spread today about the passing of David Bowie at age 69 from cancer, tributes to the beloved English rockstar have poured in. Rock Band developer Harmonix shared a statement of its own, saying it was "heartbroken" to learn of his death.

"Absolutely heartbroken over the loss of David Bowie. Another music legend lost," the developer said today in a message posted on Twitter.

Bowie's death comes not longer after Motorhead founder Lemmy Kilmister died at the end of 2015. Harmonix, along with Brutal Legend studio Double Fine and developers on the Ubisoft Rocksmith team, also shared messages of remembrance for Kilmister.

"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer," reads a statement dated January 10 from the official David Bowie Facebook page. "While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief."

Bowie's son, Duncan Jones, is a Hollywood figure who gamers may know as the director of this year's much-anticipated fantasy film Warcraft. He shared a wonderful photo of him and his father.

Very sorry and sad to say it's true. I'll be offline for a while. Love to all. pic.twitter.com/Kh2fq3tf9m
