Minecraft Boss Does Karate in Video to Announce Chinese Version

Mojang is bringing Minecraft to China. The Microsoft-owned developer announced today that it has reached a deal with NetEase to launch a version of the game in China specifically tailored for the region. The game's PC and Pocket versions are coming to China, but no mention was made of the console editions.

"This is significant news," Mojang said in a post on its website. A super-silly video in which Mojang's Jens Bergensten speaks in Chinese and performs martial arts has also been released; check it out:

"NetEase understands our long-term vision for Minecraft and support Mojang's ideals, so we're delighted to have them on board," Mojang CEO Jonas Martensson said in a statement. "We look forward to welcoming China's builders and adventurers to the world of Minecraft."

NetEase founder and CEO William Ding said his own statement that the company is "excited" to launch Minecraft in China and that he expects the game to be a big hit there.

"With our deep understanding of the Chinese market and our ability to successfully launch world-renowned online and mobile games, we offer a strong platform for the introduction of Minecraft to China's vast userbase," he explained. "We believe this cooperation could leverage the strengths of both Mojang and NetEase, as well as provide the world's largest audience with a superior user experience."

Neither Mojang nor NetEase provided any specifics on how Minecraft's Chinese version is being adapted for the country. Additionally, a release date was not announced. We'll report back with more information as it becomes available.

NetEase is also behind the Chinese versions of popular Blizzard games like World of Warcraft and Hearthstone.
