Marvel Studios today announced five actors who are joining Thor: Ragnarok, including Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, and Mark Ruffalo. The Lord of the Rings and Star Trek actor Karl Urban is also coming aboard, alongside Creed actress Tessa Thompson.

Thor: Ragnarok concept artIn a statement, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said Ragnarok will be "powerful and unique," going on to say today's casting announcements will help the movie become Thor's "most dangerous and heroic adventure yet."

"The sheer, raw talent each of these actors brings to the screen can't be quantified," Fiege added. "Having any one of them join the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be an honor, and having all of them is incredible."

Ragnarok is the third entry in the Thor series, following Thor (2011) and Thor: The Dark World (2013). Taika Waititi (Two Cars, One Night; What We Do in the Shadows) is directing the film.

Ragnarok opens in theaters on November 3, 2017. Not much is known about the plot, but, as Ruffalo pointed out in an October 2015 interview, the subtitle is an indication that it's a film about end-times.

"I know that it's about Ragnarok, or the end times in the Marvel universe as it pertains to Thor, which seems to be quite the theme these days in movies," he said at the time.

Ruffalo also said he thinks the film will be something of a "buddy picture" with Thor and Bruce Banner. They might also fight. "There's no doubt, everyone wants us to fight at one point," he said.

The two previous Thor movies have been big hits, combining for more than $1 billion at the global box office. According to Box Office Mojo, the first movie made $449.3 million globally, while The Dark World pulled in $644.6 million, bringing their combined total to $1.093 billion.
