Pro Overwatch Team Eyed by Major Sports Franchise - Report

German soccer team Wolfsburg signed two FIFA esports players back in February, and now we're hearing reports that English Premier League club Manchester United is in talks to pen a deal with a professional Overwatch team.

Esports News UK reports that the English soccer club is interested in signing the unnamed European Overwatch team, who they say is currently signed to another organization. Manchester United isn't the only one interested, however, as esports brand Fnatic is also said to be in talks with the team.

No deal has been finalized, though the report says Fnatic has already put forward an offer, while Manchester United is set to respond with a counter-offer. Esports News UK's source tells them that the soccer team is "unfazed" by Fnatic's offer. A third organization is also apparently interested in the Overwatch team.

Manchester United's net worth sits at $3.3 billion (£2.2 billion), while Fnatic's is worth significantly less at $42.5 million (£30 million).

We've contacted both Fnatic and Manchester United to ask for comment on the reported situation. We will update this article as we receive more information.

Manchester United wouldn't be the first soccer team to get into esports. Earlier this year, German club Wolfsburg signed two FIFA esports players. David Bytheway, one of the signed players, now wears Wolfsburg kit when he competes in tournaments.
