New Star Trek Game for VR Coming From Ubisoft, Will Be at E3

Assassin's Creed and Far Cry publisher Ubisoft is working on a virtual reality Star Trek game, the company announced today. It's called Star Trek: Bridge Crew, and Ubisoft confirmed on Twitter that it will showcase the title on Monday, June 13, presumably during its E3 briefing.

Developer Red Storm Entertainment, the Ubisoft-owned studio behind several Tom Clancy games, is leading development on Bridge Crew. According to an Associated Press story, it's an "interactive four-player experience" set in the JJ Abrams Star Trek universe where you play as the captain, or either a tactical, engineering, or helm officer onboard the Aegis starship.

While in virtual reality, players can do things like activate the warp drive, scan objects in space, and display important information onto a "viewscreen" within the game. Missions will be both story-focused and "randomly generated."

"It's up to you if you want to try the Kirk approach or be more methodical," Red Storm creative director David Votypka said. "The game is more about how you and your crew approach situations. It's not binary. Is it more important to save the Vulcan scientists or rescue everyone on the planet? It might be too difficult to do both. It's just like the show. There's not any one right answer."

Bridge Crew will launch this fall for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR. GameSpot will report back with more details from E3 as they are made available.
