Injustice 2 Multiplayer Will Use Popular Fighting Game Netcode

Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon stopped by GameSpot's live E3 stage show to talk about the upcoming DC fighting game, Injustice 2. He talked about the game's loot drops and gear system, but he also revealed that Injustice 2 will use GGPO netcode for its multiplayer.

"One of the things that Mortal Kombat XL introduced was this rollback system that dramatically improved the online experience," Boon explained. "Everything that we've learned we're applying into Injustice 2, so it's going to have a great online netcode."

Rollback is when netcode examines the actions performed by players, determines the right ones, and amends inaccuracies. GGPO uses this and is well-liked by the fighting game community for its better quality connections in online multiplayer.

Mortal Kombat X received GGPO earlier this year, after Boon teased the netcode's arrival on Twitter.

Injustice 2 was announced last week with a trailer, while gameplay was revealed at the Mortal Kombat X ESL Finals. It features new characters like Red Lantern Atrocitus, Gorilla Grodd, and Supergirl.

Head over to GameSpot's E3 hub to keep up to date on all the news and impressions from the event.
