Blizzard is celebrating the launch of StarCraft 2 free-to-play by taking shots at Star Wars: Battlefront 2

All the problems surrounding Star Wars: Battlefront 2's monetisation schemes have played right into Blizzard's hand.

Blizzard launches the free-to-play StarCraft 2 today. This version includes the entire multiplayer suite, as well as the Wings of Liberty campaign, all completely free.

The developer most likely had a marketing campaign planned that would emphasise the game's free-to-play – but not pay-to-win – nature, but it didn't count on EA's mega screw up with Star Wars: Battlefront 2. What started as innocuous tweets promoting the game, quickly took shots at Battlefront 2.

Number of hours it takes to earn the full StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty Campaign: 0

Then there's this amusing ad, which, like I pointed out earlier, couldn't have been a reaction to the problems with Star Wars: Battlefront 2. All that said, and although Blizzard didn't mention names, you can clearly see what the tweets are going for.

Dennis Brännvall, associate design director at DICE, who worked on Star Wars: Battlefront 2, even liked one of the tweets. It's pretty fascinating.

I hope I'm OK to like this.
