Lúcio is getting nerfed in Overwatch's CTF mode

Overwatch's Lúcio is too fast for Capture the Flag, so Blizzard is releasing a small patch to make sure he can't dominate the game.

People have been complaining about the hero on the Overwatch forums, pointing out how unfair it is when Lúcio just zips across a chasm, wall-running with the flag. Even the meanest Widowmakers are having trouble locking him down.

The complaints point out how movement abilities on other heroes cause them to drop the flag upon activation, yet Lúcio is free to skirt the edge of the map and get an easy capture.

“We're patching Lúcio very soon,” game designer Jeff Kaplan explained on the Overwatch forums. “He will drop the flag on wall ride.

“Not only is his speed unreasonably fast with the boost from Wall Ride but he can also get to places that are very difficult to defend against.”

Overwatch was never initially designed to support game modes such as CTF, so it makes sense that some heroes would make the mode feel unbalanced. Hopefully this latest Lúcio change should bring back some zen to the mode and stop everyone fighting over the nippy support hero.

As for timings – the patch should already be live for PC players, but it will hopefully go live either today or tomorrow on console. The difference in timing is due to the console certification process, which could well delay the console patch beyond Thursday.

“Console certification is out of our hands,” Kaplan clarified. “Wed Thurs is a best case scenario and if we get stuck in cert it will take longer to go live. Please manage expectations accordingly.”
