Paradox acquires Battletech, Shadowrun developer Harebrained Schemes

Swedish publisher Paradox Interactive has announced that it's purchasing Harebrained Schemes.

Harebrained Schemes is an indie studio based in Seattle, most famously known for the Shadowrun Returns series, and most recently, Battletech.

Following the success of Battletech, co-funded and published by Paradox, the publisher reached an agreement with Harebrained that'll see the publisher pay $7.5 million, as well as a portion of the studio's earnings over the next five years, to acquire Harebrained.

Harebrained “will now act as an internal studio and division” within Paradox.

The studio was founded in 2011 by Jordan Weisman, and Mitch Gitelman. Weisman is obviously most known for creating BattleTech, and the Shadowrun universes.

“Our experience working with Paradox on Battletech was the best of our careers and proved to us that this was a company we would be proud to be a part of,” said Harebrained president Mitch Gitelman.

“Harebrained Schemes have proven themselves as a world-class studio with a very talented team within a genre where Paradox wants to be present,” added Paradox CEO Fredrik Wester.

Anyone who backed Battletech on Kickstarter will receive a free copy of Paradox's Stellaris, as a way of welcoming the studio's community into the Paradox family.
