WW2 shooter Battalion 1944 gets big update that overhauls graphics, matchmaking, adds new mode

indie WW2 shooter Battalion 1944 has received a massive new update today designed to overhaul many of its aspects.

After taking on community feedback over the past six months, Battalion 1944 developer Bulkhead is ready to reveal what it has been working on since then.

Although the game received several updates post launch, this new one is its biggest. The update (6.7GB) touches up many of the game's criticised aspects, most notably its visuals and character movement.

The entire presentation has been given a facelift with new character models, new UI and HUD, and new visuals for all maps. The new graphical upgrades come with performance improvements, but it's the gameplay changes that are the most interesting.

Bulkhead has implemented a new character movement system, resigned maps, and rebalanced the game's weapons. Even the sound engine has been updated, with improvements to VOIP.

The update isn't without new content, either. Players can look forward to new weapons, maps, and the overhauled Wartide competitive mode. This is all on top of previously announced improvements to matchmaking, and adjusting of the corner jumping meta.

Catch the full change log below the break:

  • Major Performance Improvements for ALL Players
  • New Competitive Gamemode ‘Wartide 2.0'
  • New Map ‘Savoia'
  • New Matchmaking System
  • New HQ Sound Engine
  • New Crystal Clear VOIP System
  • More Verticality In Level Design
  • New Weapons
