The Elder Scrolls: Blades has been delayed to 2019

Bethesda has announced that The Elder Scrolls: Blades won't be released in 2018.

It's been a while since we last heard anything about The Elder Scrolls: Blades, and that's probably because Bethesda realised it won't be ready for the public this year.

Initially announced for a fall release, The Elder Scrolls: Blades was one of the surprise reveals at Bethesda's E3 showcase in June. The publisher even brought a playable demo to E3, and gamescom in August.

We played it and Kirk was impressed with what Bethesda was able to do on a phone. Blades is part of a larger Bethesda strategy of creating cross-platform games players would be able to access regardless of their chosen device.

The Elder Scrolls: Blades will release in Early 2019 for iOS and Android devices. We are incredibly excited for you to play Blades and you can still sign up for Early Access at https://t.co/uuFPob6YWJ.

The plan was to launch first on Android, and iOS, with hopes of expanding the game's reach to all other popular platforms. Though today's announcement doesn't reveal a more solid release target, it does say “early 2019”, which hopefully means the first couple of months.

Until then, you can still register for a chance to test it early at the official Blades portal, though details about when this test will be available remain undisclosed.

The Elder Scrolls: Blades is a free-to-play game, however, so everyone will eventually be able to play it when it's ready.
