Fallout 4 Xbox One Players May Have Downloaded the Wrong File

Bethesda has issued a warning to players who preordered Fallout 4 digitally on Xbox One. People who preordered the game on or before October 27 and are not using the console's Instant On power mode might have downloaded a "stub file" for the game. This is a placeholder file, not the one you want.

If you have this file installed, you'll need to delete it and reinstall the right one (instructions below), Bethesda said in a forum post. Everyone who preordered on Xbox One on or after October 27 should be good to go with no further action necessary.

How to delete Fallout 4 stub file:

Navigate to My Games & Apps.
Find the title's tile in Games.
With the tile highlighted, press the button on your controller.
Select Manage Game.
In the Manage Game screen, select the storage device the game is currently installed to.
Select Uninstall.
Once the game has uninstalled, return to My Games & Apps.
Scroll right to the "Ready to Install" section under Games.
Highlight the title's tile.
Press to select.
Choose Install.
If this all sounds familiar, it's because basically the same thing happened with Halo 5: Guardians in October.

The Fallout 4 release date is set for November 10 across Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. In other recent news, Bethesda has published the game's launch trailer and released a free Pip-Boy app. In addition, UK retailer GAME has canceled some Pip-Boy Edition preorders as a result of PayPal and bank errors.
