Fallout 4 and DLC were mistakenly made free on Xbox One

Fallout 4 was accidentally made free on the Xbox Store last night.

Fallout 4 and DLC were mistakenly made free on Xbox One
Fallout 4's price was reduced to $0 last night/early morning on the Xbox Store. This extended to the game's deluxe edition, season pass, as well as all add-ons separately.

For a few minutes, players everywhere started adding it to their collections, confirming that it does indeed work. Some believed the move was supposed to be one of Bethesda's surprises lined up for E3, though it's hard to imagine making the game and all add-ons free as part of any promotion.

At the end, though, it was revealed to be a mistake, an unintended effect of store maintenance. A Microsoft support representative confirmed to Neowin that the issue have been fixed and prices are back to normal.

Unfortunately, those who took advantage won't get to enjoy their free games. “Those customers who were able to get the Fallout 4 deluxe edition for free will be removed under their licenses automatically,” the representative said.

It's interesting the rep only referred to the deluxe edition here, but there's no reason to believe only licenses of this version will be removed.

With that said, it's technically possible to have bought and downloaded what you wanted during, and promptly disconnected your console from the network – the only way you could play this now.
