Indie WW2 shooter Battalion 1944 moves to 2018, reduces price

Battalion 1944 was a bit of Kickstarter darling. After tripling its crowdfunding goal, development began on the classic-leaning WW2 shooter.

The plan was to release Battalion 1944 in Steam Early Access sometime this year. Despite showings at a couple of consumer and trade events, and an ongoing closed alpha test, the game was still nowhere close to an actual release date.

Battalion 1944 developer Bulkhead has now confirmed that the release date has slipped to 2018. There's still no solid date, but Bulkhead is planning a reveal campaign that starts on January 9, 2018 with a reveal trailer.

From there, you can expect regular updates all the way up to the release. The game's price has also been reduced from $20. Battalion 1944 will now cost a modest $15 / £12 / €15 at release. This is less than even the lowest tier in the Kickstarter campaign, which is why the developer is giving exclusive backer skins to players who showed their support early.

In a press release, Bulkhead did not explicitly say if the price will be increased after Early Access, but it is likely given the wording. Until next year, you can watch this new developer diary that catches you up on what's been cooking behind-the-scenes so far.

Battalion 1944 will be published by Square Enix as part of its Collective label, which helps indie teams get exposure and promotion. It's currently in development for PC.
