Epic announces the Fortnite 2019 World Cup, their big esports push

Fortnite keeps growing – and so does the incentive to get really good at it.

Epic has previously announced $100,000,000 in prize money for the next year of Fortnite tournaments, and now they've gone a step further and announced the program through which that money will be distributed.

The Fortnite 2019 World Cup will allow Fortnite's 125 million players to qualify for various events. “Anyone can participate, anyone can win”, Epic promises.

There will be official qualifiers around the globe, and the prize money will be split between those competitions. The official, proper ‘World Cup' will focus on solos and duos, but there will be other events that encourage you to squad up.

Qualification for the World Cup will be based on the efforts and merits of the players – there will be no way for teams or companies to buy their way in, Epic has promised. So if you've spent a lot of time with Fortnite without joining a team, you have just as much chance of getting into a proper World Cup competition.

Fortnite continues to grow – a Switch version has just been released, meaning that once it comes to Android it will be just about everywhere.

Once that's done, if you want to have a shot at the World Cup, it's time to start practicing.
