When will Fortnite Playground LTM come back online? Epic doesn't know

Three days later, Fortnite's Playground LTM is still AWOL.

Update 2: Fortnite's Playground LTM will remain offline, with Epic Games unable to fix whatever problems it's having with the 4-player creative mode.

It had said the highly-anticipated mode would be back online Thursday, but as the clock ticked towards Friday Epic admitted it is unable to resolve the current problems.

While it continues to work on a fix, it has also said it will provide a post-mortem of the problems when Playground is eventually up and running.

We need to continue testing our matchmaking improvements before opening the Playground LTM.

We know you're eager to get out there but due to this we'll be unable to release this game mode tonight. More details available tomorrow.

Update: Epic Games has promised that the broken Playground LTM will return to Fortnite today.

The problem was that it's just too popular, so Epic has split the Playground matchmaker from the other modes; duos, squads and other LTMs.

“So many of you rushed in to create and play that our matchmaking service fell over,” said Epic. “We've since separated the Playground matchmaker from the one that affects the default modes and made large improvements to assist with the number of players.

“We plan to push these changes and improvements live later today to bring the Playground LTM back online.”

Yesterday Epic Games pushed the Playgrounds LTM live along with new weapons and other tweaks, but it wasn't long before the inevitable happened.

Playground LTM lets up to four players build and craft in a relatively safe space. Unfortunately, the servers couldn't handle the volume of players, resulting in massive queues. After less than two hours online, Epic took the Playground mode offline as it began maintenance.

It remains offline now, with Epic promising an update today.

“We know you want to get back out to the Playground LTM. We've got multiple teams working to get this mode back into your hands so you can let your imaginations run wild,” said Epic on Reddit.

“We want to inform you that the Playground LTM will remain closed for repairs for the night. We'll have more information available tomorrow.”

However, it seems unlikely Playgrounds will return today, as Week 9 Challenges start, giving players plenty of tasks to keep them occupied.

Players are currently struggling with matchmaking in Fortnite, leaving only Solo play guaranteed. Epic claims the matchmaking problems are over, although we're still experiencing issues on PS4 and Xbox One.

It has already pushed a patch live for PC players, with more patches expected imminently.

Fortnite is a live game with daily and weekly updates, so any problems are there for all to see. It has struggled publicly with recent updates – shopping carts, introduced as the second vehicle after jetpacks, have been on and offline multiple times.

If players are getting a little tired of the drama, they can look forward to the launch of Fortnite Season 5 next month, as Epic has confirmed the launch date and time.
