Prey Gameplay Walthrough Video Shows Upgrading and Strange Abilities

Bethesda has released a lengthy gameplay demo of Prey offering an extended look at Arkane's upcoming action game. In the 8-minute video creative director Raphael Colantonio and lead designer Ricardo Bare take viewers on a tour of Talos I, the space station where Prey is set.

The mission at hand involves finding a scientist named Dr. Calvino and, along the way, enemies capable of camouflaging themselves as objects in the environment appear. We get to see some gun combat, but Bare notes that shooting things is just one of the ways to solve problems on Talos, and also that weapons are rare.

We're also introduced to the Neuromod, which the player uses to upgrade themselves. Prey's RPG gameplay is enabled by this gadget and we get a glimpse at how the player can progress abilities.

There's also a look at an ability called Mimic, which lets the player turn into innocuous objects. Protagonist Morgan will learn some abilities from the aliens, such as Mimic, which is used to solve a puzzle by becoming a cup and then rolling through a small gap. Watch the video above to see that and a lot more.

Arkane also showed off a new trailer for Prey at The Game Awards 2016, this is a much shorter, cinematic video that provides a quick look at the game. You can watch that here.

Prey is being developed by the Austin arm of Dishonored developer Arkane Studios. Colantonio has described it as "a hybrid game where there's narrative mixed with action mixed with a little bit of RPG layer."

Prey 2 was in development at one point with Human Head Studios attached, however this version of the game was cancelled in 2014. The first Prey was released back in 2006 for PC and Xbox 360 by Human Head Studios, which has gone on to develop games like Dungeon Defenders II. Arkane's title is complete reboot of Prey.
