Ratchet and clank perfected
From a story perspective, the game is highly enjoyable. Given that it serves as the climax of many years of buildup, I found the new characters well written and surprisingly nuanced. The relationships between them are handled well, and I was genuinely engaged throughout the story.
From a gameplay standpoint, I believe this is the best Ratchet & Clank title to date. Everything that defined the previous games returns here in a far more refined form, and the new mechanics introduced are genuinely interesting. I enjoyed every aspect of the experience, from the puzzles to the combat.
Where the game is truly held back, at least on PC, is optimization. I experienced significant memory leaks that caused occasional crashes (for reference, my system has a Ryzen 7 5800X, 32 GB of RAM, and an RTX 3070 Ti). This was especially disappointing because, on paper, my setup should have been more than capable of running the game at maximum settings. I ended up having to lower some graphics options to stabilize performance.
Even after adjusting the settings, I still encountered intermittent memory leak issues. At times, the frame rate would suddenly drop from 150+ FPS to around 20 FPS before recovering. Fortunately, once I tuned the settings, these issues became relatively rare, which allowed me to enjoy the game properly.
I am not sure whether additional patches have improved performance since I finished it, but the game itself is excellent. I would strongly recommend it. The only reason I would not give it a perfect score is the optimization; aside from that, I think the rest of the game is outstanding.
