Ratchet and clank perfected

From a story perspective, the game is highly enjoyable. Given that it serves as the climax of many years of buildup, I found the new characters well written and surprisingly nuanced. The relationships between them are handled well, and I was genuinely engaged throughout the story.

From a gameplay standpoint, I believe this is the best Ratchet & Clank title to date. Everything that defined the previous games returns here in a far more refined form, and the new mechanics introduced are genuinely interesting. I enjoyed every aspect of the experience, from the puzzles to the combat.

Where the game is truly held back, at least on PC, is optimization. I experienced significant memory leaks that caused occasional crashes (for reference, my system has a Ryzen 7 5800X, 32 GB of RAM, and an RTX 3070 Ti). This was especially disappointing because, on paper, my setup should have been more than capable of running the game at maximum settings. I ended up having to lower some graphics options to stabilize performance.

Even after adjusting the settings, I still encountered intermittent memory leak issues. At times, the frame rate would suddenly drop from 150+ FPS to around 20 FPS before recovering. Fortunately, once I tuned the settings, these issues became relatively rare, which allowed me to enjoy the game properly.

I am not sure whether additional patches have improved performance since I finished it, but the game itself is excellent. I would strongly recommend it. The only reason I would not give it a perfect score is the optimization; aside from that, I think the rest of the game is outstanding.

A missed opportunity

Although I was one of the people who were genuinely hyped for this game, I know when to admit disappointment.

At the beginning, from a gameplay perspective, it was everything I expected from a Budokai Tenkaichi sequel. It was not balanced, of course, but none of the Budokai Tenkaichi games ever were. I also found the story mode satisfying overall. The comic-style presentation was a poor choice, but after so many years of Dragon Ball, I can practically recite the original story from memory, so I did not give that aspect too much weight.

Where the mode truly stood out was in the “what-if” scenarios. Many of them were genuinely well written, and all of them were quite challenging, which made them even more enjoyable.

However, after some time, the community came to a clear realization: the game was not finished.

There was virtually no real personalization, with some characters missing iconic outfits, and several accessories shown in the customization menu were simply unavailable. In addition, many fan-favorite arenas were missing, and the game launched without split-screen functionality (which clearly was not due to technical limitations, since it was eventually added later).

From that point onward, the game seemed to be gradually abandoned. Updates became less frequent and were mostly focused on combat rebalancing in an attempt to keep the community engaged. The expansion DLCs also felt extremely minimal: one of them even included only a single character, and most of the content was limited to Super Hero and Daima, despite the fact that many other characters were still missing.

Now, the game feels largely left to itself, with rumors of another announced DLC that would reportedly add a few new characters, one arena, and one new outfit.

Honestly, it is a real shame, because this game could have been so much better with proper support. I would give it a 6/10, mainly to acknowledge how strong the experience felt at the beginning, but overall it remains a major missed opportunity.

Not POE and that's a good thing

The game did not launch in the most polished or refined state possible, and that criticism is fair. However, Blizzard appears to be making a genuine effort to improve the overall experience. With the Lord of Hatred DLC, the developers have announced a significant overhaul of the skill trees, with the goal of adding greater depth to character building. While it may not reach the complexity of Path of Exile, that is not necessarily a drawback, as a more accessible system can still be highly effective when properly designed.

Despite its shortcomings, I found the game genuinely enjoyable, particularly throughout most of the seasonal content released so far. Even with its rough edges, the core gameplay loop remains engaging. Some players have expressed frustration with the in-game store, especially due to the high price of cosmetic skins. Personally, this has not affected my experience, since these items are purely cosmetic and have no impact on gameplay. While some of the skins are visually appealing, they are not compelling enough to feel essential.

At the moment, my main concern is build diversity in higher difficulty tiers. Starting from the lower Torment levels, the number of builds that remain truly effective becomes quite limited. That said, Blizzard has stated that the build system for all classes will be reworked as part of the Lord of Hatred expansion, which gives me reason to be cautiously optimistic that this issue will improve.

Overall, I have enjoyed the game and consider it a solid experience with clear room for growth. If the upcoming DLC delivers meaningful improvements to progression and build variety, I would be very willing to return and play it again.
