Mummy Reboot Starts Filming, Tom Cruise Pictured On Set

The first movie in Universal's planned franchise of classic monster movies is now in production. The Mummy is currently shooting in London with star Tom Cruise, and some on-set images have leaked. Check them out in the gallery below, via Just Jared:

The film is due to be released on June 9, 2017. It co-stars Annabelle Wallis, who is pictured here with Cruise, and Sofia Boutella, who will be seen this summer in Star Trek Beyond. Alex Kurtzman, co-writer of first two Star Trek movies in the current reboot series, is directing. Kurtzman was hired by Universal in 2014 to develop the new interconnected franchise.

In February it was reported that Johnny Depp will star in The Invisible Man, the second movie in this ongoing series. While no release date or director have been announced, it was stated that Men in Black writer Ed Solomon was writing the script.

Other key monsters that are expected to be brought back include The Wolfman, Van Helsing, Dracula, and Frankenstein. According to Variety, while Cruise isn't on board as a producer of The Mummy, he is expected to play a major role in the development of the series.
