Top 10 UK Sales Chart - Mass Effect: Andromeda Ends Ghost Recon's Reign, Debuts At No.1

Mass Effect: Andromeda has shot to No.1 in the UK physical games chart in its debut week, bringing Ghost Recon: Wildlands' reign at the top to an end. Ubisoft's open-world title drops to No.2 as a result, forcing Lego Worlds down to No.3.

The chain reaction continues below that, as Horizon Zero Dawn dips to No.4 and the evergreen Grand Theft Auto V returns to No.5 (down from No.3 and No.4, respectively).

The remainder of the chart sees little change, week-on-week: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild holds on to its No.6 spot, while FIFA 17 (No.7), Rocket League (No.8), Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (No.9), and Forza Horizon 3 (No.10) make up the rest of the top 10.

Finishing at the top in its first week will be some welcome good news for Mass Effect: Andromeda developer BioWare, which has been faced with much fan criticism following some widespread animation issues. Despite these problems, Andromeda was relatively well received by critics.

In our review, critic Scott Butterworth said Andromeda "feels like a vision half-fulfilled."

"It contains a dizzying amount of content," he explained, "but the quality fluctuates wildly." Read more in our full Mass Effect: Andromeda review.

For more on the huge space adventure, check out our two-part documentary series, The Story of Mass Effect: Andromeda, or this week's episode of Reboot, which looks at the history of science-fiction storytelling, and highlights how the new Mass Effect squanders its potential.
