Doom to run at 1080p/60fps on all platforms

Doom will bring 1080p and 60 frames-per-second prowess to new consoles.

You can expect Doom to render at 1080p and 60 frames-per-second on all platforms, according to developer id Software.

“We want players to wonder how DOOM and idTech 6 games can be so visually stunning at 60 frames-per-second at 1080p on all platforms, when other titles cannot even achieve a similar look at 30 frames-per-second,” lead project programmer Billy Khan told Bethesda blog.

“Our goal is to be the best-looking game at 1080p at 60fps.”

The PC was not specifically mentioned, but will no doubt support resolutions higher than 1080p. The frame-rate, however, remains a point of contention, as most idTech-based games don't go higher than 60 by default.

Khan added that the game's engine, idTech 6, supports modern graphical tech such as physically-based rendering and dynamic lighting and “allows artists to make characters and environments more realistic and stunning than ever before.”

The game's tech team employs a lot of former Crytek developers, many of whom worked on the company's CryEngine.

Doom is out May 13 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
