Dark Souls and Onimusha-Inspired PS4 Exclusive, Nioh, Getting Demo

A demo for Nioh, the new Onimusha-meets-Dark Souls game from Team Ninja, arrives later this month, but only for a limited time.

The "alpha demo," as it's being called, is due out on PS4 on April 26. It'll be available only until May 5, at which time it'll disappear from the PlayStation Store.

Players who manage to clear the stage in the demo will be entitled to a DLC pack in the final game called The Mark of the Conqueror. There's no word on what this consists of; Team Ninja simply refers to in a PlayStation Blog post as "special DLC."

Following the demo's release, Team Ninja will solicit feedback through an online survey so it "can make even more fun."

The studio also announced the full game is due out at some point in 2016. Neither it nor publisher Koei Tecmo had offered a release window previously.

Nioh was announced for PS4 in December during PlayStation Experience. Prior to that, it had been intended to come to PS3--as a launch game, no less--but development issues resulted in it being shelved.

You can get a glimpse of the game in action in the demo trailer above, as well in previously released footage. As we've noted, the game seems to have a decidedly slower pace than the games Team Ninja is known for, like Ninja Gaiden, and appears to have taken more than a bit of inspiration from From Software's Souls series.
